Bitcoin Cash (BCH)

Bitcoin Cash was created in August 2017 when Bitcoin forked. The fork was the result of disagreement about the best size for blocks, in a very public and contentious debate about scaleability. The stated goal of the fork was to increase the number of transactions that the Bitcoin Cash ledger can process by increasing the block size limit to eight megabytes. Bitcoin Cash is often referred to as Bcash. This is also contentious. Many people do so simply because it's a convenient abbreviation, however, many Bitcoin Cash holders view this term in a negative manner.

Mining/Staking

Bitcoin Cash uses a PoW system, just like Bitcoin. Basically, every aspect of the system mimics that of Bitcoin, except that the block sizes are larger. Currently, as Bitcoin Cash is a less expensive asset and has far fewer transactions being processed (plus greater capacity), the cost per transaction is much lower than for Bitcoin transactions.

Development Team

The main driving force behind the creation of the Bitcoin Cash fork was the Bitmain company. Roger Ver and Calvin Ayre are notable supporters.

Criticisms, Caveats, and Competitors

Obviously, the main competitor for Bitcoin Cash is Bitcoin itself, followed by another other low-fee pure cryptocurrencies (such as Litecoin). One main criticism of Bitcoin Cash is that it has added confusion to the cryptocurrency marketplace for investors and participants who don't understand the distinction between it and Bitcoin. It is important to note that you cannot send Bitcoin to a Bitcoin Cash wallet, or vice versa. Doing this results in losing your assets. This has been a costly experience for many novice cryptocurrency investors.
