Decred (DCR)
Decred is designed as a pure cryptocurrency, but is notable for its fairly unique combination of both Proof of Work and Proof of Stake within the same ecosystem. Decred was originally a fork of Bitcoin.
Mining/Staking
Decred has a community-based governance system that is integrated in its blockchain. Decred features a hybridized proof-of-work and proof-of-stake consensus system that creates a balance between miners and voters.
Development Team
This project features a mid-sized team, although it seems odd that as of the time of writing, the developer/marketing/advisory team consists of thirty-two individuals and only one of those is a woman. Two of the key advisors for this project are Charlie Lee and Jimmy Song.
Criticisms, Caveats, and Competitors
The main challenge for Decred, as with many pure cryptocurrencies, will be to encourage adoption by merchants and service providers.
