Salt (SALT)
SALT lets you leverage your blockchain assets to secure cash loans. They offer investors an opportunity to secure their cryptocurrency holdings as assets again loans.
Mining/Staking
We can't understand how the tokens are integral to the performance of the project. It seems that in this case, the SALT tokens act much like shares of a company, rather than as being integrated with the technology. This may not necessarily be a bad thing. We just don't have a clear picture of exactly how this project is organized.
Development Team
Salt has a mid-sized development and advisory team, which includes Eric Voorhees (ShapeShift, Bitcoin) as an advisor.
Criticisms, Caveats, and Competitors
We are not certain where the financing for lending comes from. During a significant market downturn, which is common in the cryptoasset space, does the collateral come under pressure similar to a margin call? What kind of leverage/multiplier can be borrowed on one's crypto assets that are surrendered as collateral? Presumably it can't be a large amount due to the inherent volatility of crypto.
